Daniel survives his ordeal with the lions

More than a hundred people packed the church to see the annual St Paul’s show. Directed by Bill Lucas, with a cast of authentically costumed children between the ages of 5 and 12 and with a superb band led by Jonathan Upfold, the tale of Daniel was told.

As well as the characters you’d expect to find from the well-known story, this version introduced the leader of the king’s guard, his scheming financial adviser and a stargazing astrologer. These three governors added moments of memorable drama – especially a last-minute change of heart as Daniel’s true wisdom was appreciated. A highlight of the show was the sight of the youngest actor, playing a lion, chasing two evil advisers round the church on the orders of King Darius.
