Exhibition at St Matthew’s

Drawings by the late Harry Wright, for many years churchwarden of St Matthew with St Paul

‘Harry was an absolutely wonderful man’, observes Maggie Brecknell. ‘I had the privilege of being his Parish Visitor for several years before his death in 2011.

‘He loved both church buildings inside and out and was in turn loved by all church members who knew him. At various times he was churchwarden, PCC secretary and Electoral Roll Officer, serving under at least three rectors.

‘Any job that needed doing, he would do. Great calligrapher, he would prepare baptism and other certificates; played and taught the recorder; a good cook; taught himself crochet and made lovely soft toys for his grandchildren. An interested and interesting man, he had been an English teacher at Henry Beaufort and his latter years were devoted to caring for his wife Pam.’

The exhibition runs from Sat 1 July to Sun 16 July, 10 am–4 pm, free entry.
